We're Here to Answer Your Questions
What distinguishes Apple Blossoms from other senior living facilities?
From the moment you arrive at Apple Blossoms Assisted Living, the difference is immediately felt. Nestled in a quiet, residential neighborhood surrounded by blossoming trees, our home reflects class, dignity, and comfort. Unlike traditional senior living facilities, there are no signs or institutional features, only a welcoming, home-like assisted living environment designed to help seniors feel at ease.
Our residents receive personalized assisted living and respite care for seniors in a warm, intimate setting that promotes comfort, familiarity, and peace of mind. This approach allows us to deliver high-quality assisted living care for elderly individuals while maintaining the feeling of a true home rather than a facility.
The inviting aroma of home-cooked meals often fills the house, as residents gather together like family. Sharing stories, laughter, and companionship. Families are warmly encouraged to join their loved ones for meals during visits, reinforcing our belief in family-centered senior care.
It is this sense of belonging, compassion, and comfortable senior living that truly sets Apple Blossoms Assisted Living apart as a trusted assisted living community.
How is an Assisted Living Facility different from a Nursing Home?
It’s smaller. More intimate. Just like home. It’s a five bed facility so the residents get more attention versus the nursing home where the ratio for care is at least 15 (or 26) to 1 where we have 5 to 1 or less. Someone is here twenty-four hours a day. We have a volunteer from the local school’s CNA program.
How do I know if it's time for me to look at assisted living?
This decision is unique to each individual’s nature, health, and daily needs. When a senior begins to find it difficult to manage daily activities such as personal care, mobility, or household tasks, it may be time to consider an assisted living facility for seniors. An assisted living home also provides family members reassurance that their loved one is safe, supported, and receiving proper care even when they cannot be present.
Is your Assisted Living Facility allowed to give medication?
Yes, we are allowed to administer medication. Our licensed assisted living facility in Maryland employs a certified medication technician, which is a requirement set by the State of Maryland and Montgomery County. This ensures that residents receive proper medication management as part of our professional senior assisted living services.
What if a senior is very ill but does not need to go to a hospital?
We have an on-call physician who visits our assisted living residence as needed. If the issue is acute, the physician will come once and provide follow-up care to ensure the resident is recovering well. In addition, our doctor is available for guidance, and we frequently consult him with questions. We can also arrange in-home lab services for seniors through Holy Cross home health labs.
What if my parent needs x-rays or special tests?
We offer access to on-site mobile X-ray services in Silver Spring, allowing imaging to be done right at the assisted living home. Additionally, we have a mobile dentist available when needed. These in-home medical services for elderly residents are especially helpful for families who may be too busy or unable to transport their loved one to multiple appointments.
Are you equipped to deal with my aging parent with Alzheimer’s?
Yes. Because each Alzheimer’s patient is unique, we work closely with a geriatric physician and psychiatrist to provide proper support. When needed, we also refer residents to a neurologist so we can develop an individualized Alzheimer’s and memory care assisted living plan. We provide daily occupational therapy, appropriate medication, and continuous nursing support to help residents feel comfortable and secure in their environment.
What kind of emergency procedures do you practice at your assisted living home?
Each month, our staff reviews and practices fire safety and emergency procedures. We also speak with residents about how to safely exit the home if needed. Our assisted living facility is located just minutes from the Hillandale Fire Department and local Police Station, ensuring fast emergency response when required.
How close is your senior care facility to a hospital?
Our assisted living community in Silver Spring, Maryland is conveniently located near Highway 495. This allows for quick and easy transportation to Holy Cross Hospital, which can be reached within minutes in case of a medical need.
My father is eighty-five years old and suffers from depression – how can you help him?
We have a psychiatrist available to support residents who are experiencing depression. In addition, our caregivers provide compassionate, family-style senior care and make every effort to engage residents in daily activities. Through consistent interaction, emotional support, and a warm home environment, we work to help residents feel connected and uplifted.
I'm caring for my loved one, but something has come up, and now I need someone to take care of the him/her while I am unavailable. Can Apple Blossoms help? Do you offer temporary respite care?
Yes, we do. We offer short-term and respite assisted living care when open beds are available, and we can often accommodate seniors on short notice. If respite care is possible, we are happy to help, as we do our best not to turn away a senior who needs care and support.
Is it really a family environment? Does a family run it?
Yes, it is truly a family-run assisted living home. Odette, the owner of Apple Blossoms Assisted Living, lives within walking distance and is on the premises daily with her family. She closely monitors the care provided and works directly with residents and their family members, creating a warm, home-like environment that feels like living with one’s own family.
Does your Senior residence offer daily or special outings or planned activities?
Activities depend on the individual resident’s level of care and ability. When residents are able, we plan senior-friendly outings and activities such as visits to local restaurants, senior club trips, neighborhood walks, yoga sessions, and occasional movie outings.

Are pets allowed – some seniors want to bring their pet with them and are reluctant to move into a home unless they can – is this open for consideration?
No, pets are not permitted in the assisted living home. We have allowed this in the past, but it did not work well due to sanitation concerns and allergies of other residents. However, we are happy to help arrange short pet visits, allowing residents to spend time with their pets when possible.
